Fresh CAD renders published by reliable supply chain leaker Sonny Dickson, corroborated by reports from Ming-Chi Kuo, paint a clearer picture of what to expect from Apple's iPhone 18 Pro later this year. The big headline: titanium is staying, the Capture Button is getting smarter, and USB-C speeds are finally getting a serious upgrade.
The titanium chassis, which replaced stainless steel in the iPhone 15 Pro and continued through iPhone 16 and 17, will remain for iPhone 18 Pro. This aligns with Apple's wider materials strategy — titanium is lighter than stainless steel, more scratch-resistant, and easier to recycle. No surprises there.
Capture Button Redesign
The more interesting revelation is around the Capture Button introduced in iPhone 16. According to the renders and Kuo's supply chain notes, the iPhone 18 Pro's Capture Button will gain gesture recognition — the ability to detect swipe directions in addition to the existing click and half-press inputs. This would effectively turn the button into a 5-way controller for the camera: left swipe to change lens, right swipe to cycle between photo and video, and standard presses for capture and exposure lock.
A second source familiar with Apple's accessory roadmap suggests this gesture capability will extend to third-party apps through an updated Camera API, opening up control mapping possibilities for video and creative tools.
USB 4 Gen 3 — Finally
iPhone 15 Pro introduced USB 3 speeds via USB-C. iPhone 16 Pro kept the same speeds. iPhone 17 Pro made no change. iPhone 18 Pro, if the supply chain reports are correct, will be the first iPhone to support USB 4 Gen 3 — delivering up to 40Gb/s transfer speeds. That is significant for video professionals who want to offload ProRes footage directly to an external SSD at speed.
Display and A20
The display is expected to carry over the ProMotion 1–120Hz OLED panel from iPhone 17 Pro, with an improved always-on implementation. The A20 Pro chip is expected inside — details are sparse, but a move to a 2nm TSMC process seems likely given Apple's usual tick-tock cadence.
Expected Timeline
Apple traditionally announces new iPhone Pro models in September. If the supply chain timeline holds, the iPhone 18 Pro will follow that pattern with mass production beginning in August. As always, these are leaks based on early manufacturing samples and Apple reserves the right to change specifications until the final product ships.
