Google Pixel 11 Pro XL Review: The Biggest Pixel, and the Least Improved for the Money

The Pixel 11 family launched on August 12, and the Pixel 11 Pro XL sits at the top as Google's biggest, most capable phone — a bigger battery, a bigger screen, and the same headline camera and display improvements we covered in our Pixel 11 Pro review. It's also, on paper, the hardest Pixel 11 to justify on value: a flat $100/£100/€100 price increase over the Pixel 10 Pro XL, with no single change big enough to obviously account for it.
Design and Build
At 226g, the Pro XL is a genuinely large phone, built around the same matte Gorilla Glass Victus 2 back and horizontal camera bar as the smaller Pro, including the new HiLight LED cluster that glows for favourite-contact calls and active Gemini listening. The four launch colours — Canyon, Olive, Fog, and matte Obsidian — carry over unchanged across the whole Pixel 11 range.
Display
A 6.8-inch LTPO Super Actua OLED panel at roughly 486ppi now peaks at 3,600 nits, the same brightness increase found across the Pixel 11 Pro line, and it's the single most noticeable real-world upgrade — direct-sunlight visibility is genuinely improved over last year's 3,000-nit panel. Gorilla Glass Victus 2 rated at 2x more scratch resistance rounds out a display that was already among the best in the industry and is now simply more usable outdoors.
Camera
Camera hardware is identical to the smaller Pixel 11 Pro: a 50MP f/1.7 main sensor, a 48MP ultrawide with macro focus, and a 48MP 5x periscope telephoto pushed via software to 120x Pro Zoom, up from 100x last year. The new Magic Capture mode uses Gemini to watch for the right moment — a jump, a smile, a passing subject — and fire the shutter automatically, genuinely useful for photographing kids or pets rather than composed, deliberate shots. Instant Night Sight claims up to 4.5x faster low-light capture thanks to Tensor G6's extra TPU headroom, and the 42MP autofocus front camera with a 103-degree field of view is unchanged from last year.
Performance
Tensor G6 is Google's first 2nm chip, paired with a new Titan M3 security co-processor and — for the first time on any Pixel — an in-house-integrated modem replacing the Samsung Exynos radio used since the Pixel 6. Google claims roughly 20% faster CPU performance and a 50% faster TPU for on-device Gemini tasks, though pre-launch Geekbench listings showed only a modest gap over the outgoing Tensor G5. RAM scales sensibly with storage: 12GB on the 256GB tier, 16GB on the 512GB and 1TB tiers. Android 17 ships with a full 7-year commitment to OS and security updates, matching Samsung's best-in-class promise.
Battery and Charging
A 5,115mAh battery is the largest in the Pixel 11 line and a genuine step up from the standard Pro's 4,850mAh — the size difference alone should translate into a real endurance advantage for heavy users. 45W wired charging is rated to reach roughly 75% in about 30 minutes, faster than the standard Pro's 30W ceiling, and Qi2 wireless charging is claimed up to 29% faster than the Pixel 10 Pro XL, with Google's Pixelsnap magnetic array built in for MagSafe-compatible accessories.

If you're upgrading from a Pixel 8 or older, or specifically want the largest screen and battery Google sells, it's an easy buy. Pixel 10 Pro XL owners have much less reason to move.
